"Just right" books are books that a child can read, understand, and analyze independently. At this level, a child can read the words fluently with few mistakes, and understand both what is stated in the text and what is implied by the text. Additionally, he/she can make text to self, text to text, and text to world connections at this level.
A child's "just right" level is determined by his/her teacher using a variety of reading assessments; including, but not limited to, BeBop and TC Assessments, running records, individual reading conferences, small group instruction, and whole class instruction. The teacher asseses children regularly and frequently, and will adjust a child's level when appropriate.
